LAHORE: Shaheen Shah Afridi, the captain of the Lahore Qalandars, proved legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi incorrect by leading his team to their first Pakistan Super League (PSL) title victory on Sunday.

The Qalandars overpowered the Sultans and defeated them by 42 runs, as the Shaheen-led side put on a clinic for their fans, capturing their first PSL title in seven editions.

The 21-year-old was named captain of the Qalandars ahead of this year’s PSL, but Shahid was not happy with the selection.

“I had persuaded Shaheen to hold off on assuming leadership for a year or two so that he could concentrate on his bowling. But, because he’s also an Afridi, he didn’t pay attention to me “According to Afridi, who spoke to a private television programme.

“Having said that, I’m glad he’s opted to take on this responsibility, and I hope he proves me wrong,” added the former skipper.

“The entire Qalandars team, and indeed the entire city of Lahore, is deserving of this! Happy New Year, Mubarak Mubarak Mubarak Mubarak Mubarak “Afridi continued.
