While Powell has been in discussions about the role for a while, Sweeney might also join him in this exciting new project.
The original Running Man, directed by Paul Michael Glaser, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Ben Richards in a dystopian game show where convicts battle for their freedom. The reboot, based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, promises to deliver a fresh take on the thrilling concept.
Sweeney’s schedule seems to align perfectly with the film’s timeline. She is currently working on a biopic about Christy Martin, set to finish by next month. Additionally, filming for the third season of Euphoria is scheduled to begin in January 2025, allowing Sweeney to potentially join the Running Man reboot, which is set to start shooting at the end of October.
Glen Powell, who recently appeared in the sequel to the 1996 film Twisters, is enthusiastic about the project. He shared with IndieWire, “We’ve been going back and forth on script stuff, and it’s so fun. The world that Edgar’s developed is just outrageous.” Powell expressed his excitement about the adaptation, noting his admiration for the Stephen King book.
