In a move that has added another layer of complexity to the 2024 presidential race, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has rejected Donald Trump’s proposal to shift their scheduled debate to Fox News. The debate was originally slated to take place on September 10, hosted by ABC News, as part of the two-debate arrangement agreed upon earlier this year between Trump and then-candidate Joe Biden.

With President Joe Biden having withdrawn from the race last month, Kamala Harris, who is now the Democratic presidential nominee, will face off against Trump in the general election scheduled for November 5. Following Biden’s exit, Trump proposed moving the debate to September 4, with Fox News as the host, citing a conflict of interest with ABC News due to ongoing litigation involving the network.

In response to Trump’s proposal, Harris took to social media platform X to reaffirm her commitment to the original debate schedule. “It’s interesting how ‘any time, any place’ becomes ‘one specific time, one specific safe space.’ I’ll be there on September 10th, like he agreed to. I hope to see him there,” Harris wrote.

Harris’s campaign echoed her stance, accusing Trump of attempting to avoid the debate by seeking a different venue. Michael Tyler, the campaign’s communication director, criticized Trump for trying to evade the previously agreed-upon debate. “Donald Trump is running scared, hoping that Fox News will bail him out of the debate he had already agreed to with ABC News,” Tyler said. “He needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on September 10.”

The debate, which was initially set to feature Biden and Trump, has now become a focal point in the election campaign. Harris’s campaign has emphasized that she is prepared to participate in the debate as scheduled and is open to discussing additional debates only after the September 10 event.

The situation highlights the ongoing tensions and strategic maneuvering in a highly anticipated election year. As the campaign progresses, both candidates will have further opportunities to engage with voters and clarify their positions on key issues ahead of the November 5 election.
