“No one will ever be able to match his contribution to Drum and Bass.”

MC Skibadee, one of the pioneers of drum ‘n’ bass, has died at the age of 54, according to his family.

“Hello everyone, as Alphonsos first born, I sadly come some with sad news to say that skibadee has died away, as a family we beg for some privacy but may he rest in peace,” Skibadee said on Facebook today (February 27).

The cause of death has yet to be determined.

The musician (actual name Alfonso Bondzie) made his start on City Sound Radio in 1993, when he was born in Waterloo, London. He was a resident for pirate station Kool FM by the end of 1995, and a frequent at events like Thunder & Joy, Johnson & Johnsons, Spirit of the Jungle, and others.

Two years later, he and MC Det released 2Xfreestyle, a project in which they combined drum ‘n’ bass tempos with hip-hop beats to create a double-time effect. Skibadee would perform this technique with the late Stevie Hyper D, the style’s creator.

He became famous for a variety of songs, the most famous of which being ‘Inside Me,’ and he has received numerous honours for his work, including the 1Xtra award for Best MC in 2006 and the Stevie Hyper D Memorial Award For Lifetime Achievement at the 2010 Drum & Bass Awards.

SASASAS, a drum ‘n’ bass combo, published the album ‘Unite (DJ Mix)’ last year, with Skibadee as a member.

On social media, tributes to Skibadee have begun to flood in, including one from Plastician. The producer wrote, “Skibadee was your favourite MC’s favourite MC’s favourite MC.” “I believe he was the first person I ever heard MC, and I’m sure many people my age can say the same.” It’s impossible to overestimate the foundations that guy laid for all we’ve enjoyed since.”

“Skibadee, rest in peace. “I can’t believe I’m typing this right now,” Friction wrote. “Over the years, I’ve had some incredible experiences on stage with him. “A true legend in our scene who will be remembered for all time”

“I can’t believe I’m writing this,” DJ Fresh tweeted. MC Skibadee, RIP @TheRealSkibz. His impact on Drum and Bass will never be surpassed. He was first and foremost a wonderful person with whom I always enjoyed spending time. Goodbye, old buddy; your memory will live on forever in our hearts.”

DJ Semtex remarked, “We’ve lost another legend.” “Rest in peace, Skibadee, great lyrical master and pioneer. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans.”
