In an extended second trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, Lily-Rose Depp is seen entranced by the dark allure of the vampire, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. “I’d never been so happy,” she exclaims, tears of zeal streaming down her face, as glimpses of the shadowy vampire lurking near doorways and windows heighten the tension.
Originally released on June 24, the first trailer generated excitement for this gothic horror film, set to premiere on December 25, 2024. Written and directed by Eggers, Nosferatu explores the obsessive relationship between a haunted young woman and a terrifying vampire whose infatuation brings chaos and horror to her life.
The star-studded cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe. This film marks Eggers’ second collaboration with Focus Features, following the success of his Viking epic The Northman, which earned $70 million globally.
Nosferatu is inspired by the iconic 1922 silent film directed by F.W. Murnau, which itself was a loose adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. This legacy continues with several adaptations over the years, including Werner Herzog’s 1979 Nosferatu the Vampyre and the 2000 film Shadow of the Vampire, for which Dafoe received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Max Schreck, the actor who famously played Count Orlok.
With Nosferatu, Eggers promises a fresh yet haunting interpretation of this classic horror tale, joining Focus Features’ impressive slate that includes various upcoming films, such as Touch, Dìdi, Piece by Piece, and Conclave.
