The first trailer for “Ballerina,” a thrilling spinoff from the “John Wick” franchise, has arrived, showcasing Ana de Armas in a fierce role as Eve Macarro, a Ruska Roman ballerina on a quest for vengeance. Set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025, the film follows Eve as she seeks retribution against the hitmen who murdered her family.
Taking place between “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” and “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “Ballerina” highlights a character who made a brief appearance in the third film, originally portrayed by Unity Phelan. The trailer reveals Eve’s backstory and her relentless pursuit of revenge, featuring intense action sequences where she slices a neck with an ice skate and uses a high-powered hose to douse a flamethrower.
Notably, the trailer culminates with a meeting between Eve and John Wick himself, played by Keanu Reeves, who has a significant role in the film, contrary to just making a cameo. Writer Shay Hatten emphasized that Wick is a “real character” in the storyline.
The cast includes familiar faces from the franchise, such as Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick, alongside newcomers Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus.
Directed by Len Wiseman and written by Hatten based on characters created by Derek Kolstad, “Ballerina” builds on the success of the “John Wick” series, which recently released its highest-grossing installment to date, earning over $440 million worldwide. This spinoff follows other expansions of the franchise, including the recent prequel miniseries “The Continental,” featuring Mel Gibson.
