Michael B. Jordan is set to direct and star in a new adaptation of The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios. This marks Jordan’s second directorial project, following his successful debut with Creed III. Jordan was previously announced as a star in the film back in 2016 and will also produce through his Outlier Society banner, alongside Elizabeth Raposo.

The film, which will receive a global theatrical release, is based on the classic 1968 heist film starring Steve McQueen. Jordan will direct from a script by Drew Pearce, with earlier drafts penned by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. The project also features producers Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff, with Alan Trustman, the writer of the original film, serving as an executive producer.

This new adaptation is the third iteration of the romantic heist story, following the 1999 version with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Jordan’s Outlier Society has a first-look film and overall television deal with Amazon MGM Studios, which also produced Creed III. That film opened with a franchise-record $58.6 million domestic gross and went on to earn $276 million worldwide.

In a recent interview, Jordan described his experience making Creed III as “transformative,” reflecting on his growth as a director and actor. Despite his achievements, he continues to view himself as an underdog, eager to leverage his skills and experience in future projects.

Jordan’s upcoming slate includes the John Clark film Rainbow Six and a sequel to I Am Legend with Will Smith. Additionally, he has partnered again with Ryan Coogler for a secretive genre film, set to be released in IMAX on March 7, 2025 by Warner Bros.

Jordan is represented by M88 and WME. Deadline first reported the news of his directing deal.
