Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a momentous event, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dosari officially launched the screening of the highly anticipated wildlife documentary film ‘Horizon Saudi Arabia’ on Thursday. The event took place at the Government Communication Center within the Ministry of Media headquarters in Riyadh, marking a significant step in showcasing the Kingdom’s environmental treasures to the world.

The documentary, a brainchild of the Konoz Initiative, was unveiled in the presence of distinguished officials from the National Center of Wildlife (NCW), the strategic partner for the project, along with various specialists, media professionals, and other officials. The film, a testament to Saudi Arabia’s commitment to wildlife preservation, will be accessible to a global audience through multiple platforms, including Netflix, starting January 4, 2024.

‘Horizon Saudi Arabia’ delves into the diverse aspects of wildlife and biodiversity in the Kingdom, emphasizing the tireless efforts made by Saudi Arabia, particularly through the NCW and its collaborators, to safeguard and protect its rich natural heritage from the threat of extinction. The NCW played a pivotal role in bringing the documentary to fruition by contributing its scientific and cognitive expertise as part of the Konoz Initiative’s strategic partnership.

During the screening event, the Konoz Initiative revealed several new partnerships, totaling eight local and international collaborations with media and artistic entities. These partnerships aim to amplify the reach of the initiative’s productions, continuing its mission of documenting Saudi Arabia’s cultural wealth and civilizational contributions.

The documentary project adhered to the highest international production standards, involving an international team specialized in wildlife documentation, along with the active participation of 13 Saudi researchers. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Media’s broader efforts to shine a spotlight on the Kingdom’s environmental assets and contribute to global conversations on biodiversity conservation.

The Konoz Initiative, part of the Human Capacity Development Program under Saudi Vision 2030, is dedicated to capturing Saudi Arabia’s cultural richness and civilizational contributions. By collaborating with local companies, the initiative aims to produce content of international standards, including documentaries, short films, and animation. This aligns with the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030, emphasizing the development of local visual content to showcase the Kingdom’s abundance of treasures.

Notable projects produced by the Konoz Initiative include “A Difficult Stage,” “Nawras Al-Arab,” “What the Saudis Eat,” and “Saudi Atlas.” These documentaries contribute to the broader narrative of Saudi Arabia’s cultural identity and success stories at both national and international levels.
