Workers at major U.S. tech firms, including Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft, are heavily supporting Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, with donations far surpassing those for Republican Donald Trump. Data from political watchdog OpenSecrets shows significant financial backing from tech employees and their families for Harris, contrasting with support from tech billionaires like Elon Musk and Marc Andreessen, who favor Trump.

Alphabet employees have contributed $2.16 million to Harris, nearly 40 times the amount Trump received from the tech giant. Amazon and Microsoft employees donated $1 million and $1.1 million to Harris, respectively, while Trump received $116,000 and $88,000 from these companies’ workers. In comparison, Walmart employees have split their donations more evenly between both candidates.

The disparity in contributions reflects higher disposable incomes among tech workers compared to those in retail sectors. For instance, Amazon’s corporate employees earn an average of $133,000 annually, compared to Walmart’s $85,000.

While tech billionaires express support for Trump, citing economic and business policies, the broader tech workforce appears more aligned with Harris’ progressive stance on technology and worker rights. Meta and Apple employees also show strong support for Harris, further illustrating a shift in Silicon Valley’s political landscape.

Silicon Valley’s historical left-leaning stance continues, with over 100 venture capitalists endorsing Harris, who is seen as pro-innovation in business and technology.
