Defeating veteran Conservative MP Shailesh Vara by a narrow margin of 39 votes, Carling has already dubbed his win as a “political earthquake.”
Despite his age, Carling is determined not to let it overshadow his agenda as he heads to Westminster. Emphasizing the importance of representation for young people in public office, he hopes that his election will inspire more youth participation in politics, both in Parliament and at local council levels.

Prior to Carling, the title of “baby of the House” belonged to Keir Mather, another young Labour MP elected in 2023.
