World record holder and accomplished American swimmer Regan Smith is getting ready to make waves in Paris during the 2024 Summer Olympics. The 22-year-old, who previously competed for Stanford in swimming, recently earned a spot in her second Olympics thanks to a strong showing at the Indianapolis U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials. Smith set a world record in the 100-meter backstroke and dominated the 200-meter butterfly as well as the women’s 100- and 200-meter backstroke events.

Reflecting on her recent achievements, Smith described the experience as “gratifying,” particularly because it allows her to don a swim cap bearing her name and the American flag once more. Smith, a fifteen-year-old who was the United States’ representative for the first time, interprets this national emblem as having deep significance. It nearly made her cry, she said to Fox News Digital. The triumphant swimmer stated, “I was swimming behind the blocks, and I was not just swimming for myself; I was swimming for the entire country behind me, who had my back and wanted me to succeed.”

Smith has grown more and more patriotic over the years. She competed in the 200-meter butterfly and 100-meter backstroke events at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where she finished third. It was her first time at the Olympics. Now that he has another opportunity to compete internationally, Smith is eager to represent the US once more. “What a patriotic girl I am. I have a deep love for America. She smiled and said, “I really am such an American girl at heart.

Smith considers donning the American flag cap to be a privilege that is always meaningful. She remarked, “I am so unbelievably proud every summer when I get to wear the American flag cap and represent it.” “It is really special every time I get to stand atop a podium, put my hand over my heart, and listen to the national anthem play over the whole aquatic center. It is always fresh. Every time it occurs for me, I think it kind of gains significance and worth. Thus, it will not be any different this summer. I am going to be incredibly excited to don that cap, travel abroad, and, in my opinion, represent the greatest nation in human history. And it really is fantastic. It is just fantastic all around. Every time I compete for my country, I feel incredibly proud to be an American.”

Smith’s network of supporters extends beyond her athletic accomplishments and includes her family, friends, and an unexpected companion in her adopted cat, Roo. Earlier this year, during a particularly trying time, Smith adopted Roo from an animal shelter in Arizona. Smith was forced to take a break from training after becoming ill just months before the Olympic trials. An animal support system could be a helpful tool for her during this difficult period, according to advice from her family and sports psychologist. “She is the cutest thing ever, and she helped me get through that difficult time. She was an amazing support system,” Smith remarked. She would welcome me at the door when I would arrive home from practice crying because I just wanted to get back to my previous training level, even though I was still kind of recovering from my illness.

The significance of this support network is emphasized by Smith’s collaboration with pet nutrition company Nulo. Smith highlights the relationship between athletes and their pets as part of Nulo’s Fuel Incredible campaign, which also features Olympians Simone Biles and Caeleb Dressel. Smith thinks that her return to her best work has been greatly aided by this relationship.

Regan Smith is not letting go of her pursuit of gold as the Paris Olympics approach. She is most proud of her opportunity to represent her country, though, even more than any personal accolades. She declared, “I am just going to be so unbelievably excited to put that cap on and go overseas and represent the greatest country in world history.” “And it is simply fantastic. It is just fantastic all around. And each time I represent my nation in competition, I am incredibly proud to be American.”
