The Miami Dolphins are set to sign veteran pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul from the New Orleans Saints practice squad. Pierre-Paul will be expected to fill the void left by outside linebacker Jalen Phillips recently suffering a torn Achilles.
Pierre-Paul will be expected to fill the void left by Jaelan Phillips’ Achillies injury suffered Fri. The Dolphins had originally selected Phillips in the first round of the 2021 draft with the No. 18 overall pick.
During his lone season with the Ravens, Pierre-Paul recorded 26 tackles, three sacks, and an interception over the course of 14 appearances. Phillips had picked up 5.5 sacks and 39 tackles throughout the season and was turning in a solid performance against the New York Jets before suffering the Achilles injury last Friday.
He followed this up with a four-year stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before his year in Baltimore. During his 14-year career Pierre-Paul has amassed a total of 631 tackles, 127 tackles for loss, 21 forced fumbles, five interceptions, and 94.5 sacks.
He had recorded four tackles with three of those for a loss, and also had a sack to his name, before quickly going down with the non-contact injury in the fourth quarter and being carted off the field. Pierre-Paul was originally drafted by the New York Giants with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, where he went on to spend the first eight seasons of his career.
