Donald Trump has decided to skip an interview with CBS’s iconic show “60 Minutes” once more. This marks the second time he has turned down the opportunity to speak with the program, which has a long tradition of interviewing presidential candidates before elections.
Originally, Trump’s campaign had agreed to sit down for an interview with Scott Pelley, but they’ve now canceled, despite previously committing to it. In contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris will still appear on the show, talking with correspondent Bill Whitaker.
“60 Minutes” has a history of inviting candidates from both parties to share their views as election day approaches. A CBS News statement confirmed that both the Trump and Harris campaigns had agreed to participate, with plans for each to have equal time during the broadcast.
In 2020, Trump had a contentious exchange with correspondent Lesley Stahl, where he abruptly ended the interview. This time around, the program intends to go ahead with Harris’s interview while keeping the door open for Trump.
With Trump backing out, the show will focus on Harris’s campaign trail activities and will include Governor Tim Walz, who is also running for Vice President.
