Collin Gosselin, one of the eight children featured on Kate Plus 8, has shed light on the fractured relationship he has with his mother, Kate Gosselin, and how she played a role in causing a significant family rift. Collin, who now lives with his father Jon Gosselin, revealed that his strained relationship with his mother and six of his siblings has persisted since 2018.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Collin recounted his experience of being sent to a facility by Kate in 2016 due to behavioral issues. He described this period as “the most scared I’ve probably ever been in my life,” reflecting on the emotional toll it took on him. Collin’s comments come in light of Kate’s Instagram post from July 2023, where she addressed Collin’s psychiatric treatment, stating, “My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters, and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs.”
Collin believes that his placement in the facility was partly motivated by a desire to protect Kate’s public image. He noted that the Gosselin family’s high-profile reality TV status meant their lives were under constant scrutiny. “Our family was under a spotlight 24/7… My mother, especially following her divorce, was seen as a single mother taking care of eight children. I strongly believe—and I know—that the reason I was sent away was to protect my mother’s reputation,” he said.
Despite the challenges, Collin maintains contact with only his father and his sister Hannah. He expressed a desire to eventually rebuild relationships with his other siblings, emphasizing that he holds no ill will toward them. “I would never trash their names in the media. But I do believe my mother is behind the things they say in the media. She’s behind their opinion of me. I think if we knew each other today, we’d be very good friends,” he shared.
Collin’s insights highlight the personal struggles faced by the Gosselin family, long scrutinized by the public eye due to their reality television fame.
