Disney has unveiled an exciting glimpse of the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch at D23, showcasing a CGI version of the beloved character Stitch. Maia Kealoha will star as Lilo Pelekai in the film, which is slated for a theatrical release in summer 2025. While a specific release date has not yet been confirmed, Disney’s schedule indicates a possible slot on May 23.
The live-action remake pays homage to the 2002 animated classic directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, which follows the adventures of 6-year-old Lilo and her sister Nani as they adopt a blue extraterrestrial named Stitch. In this new adaptation, Stitch will be created using CGI technology to bring him to life.
The film will feature Sydney Agudong as Nani, with Chris Sanders returning to voice Stitch. Zach Galifianakis will portray Dr. Jumba Jookiba, the mad scientist behind Stitch, while Billy Magnussen takes on the role of Agent Pleakley, a member of the United Galactic Federation. Courtney B. Vance will play a social worker overseeing Lilo, and Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the original film, will appear as Mrs. Kekoa. Amy Hill, known for voicing Mrs. Hasagawa, joins the cast as Tūtū, and Jason Scott Lee returns as David Kawena.
Dean Fleischer Camp, acclaimed for Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, directs the film, with a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing, with Ryan Halprin, Tom C. Peitzman, and Louie Provost serving as executive producers.
