After one season, Bryan Lee O’Malley reveals the end of the Scott Pilgrim anime series.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off: No Season 2 on Netflix, Executive Producer Confirms

It’s official—Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will not be returning for a second season on Netflix. This announcement comes exactly one year after the anime adventure series premiered on the streaming platform. Bryan Lee O’Malley, co-developer and executive producer, confirmed the news, much to the disappointment of eager fans.
“We were recently informed that the show will NOT return,” O’Malley shared on social media. “As you know, we only intended for one season, and we pulled out all the stops to make it happen, so producing more would be nearly impossible. I know some of you were holding out hope, but this is where we stand.”
A Self-Contained Season: A Creative Decision
Despite fans hoping for more, O’Malley, alongside co-developer BenDavid Grabinski, had always planned for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off to be a one-season show. The duo made it clear from the start that the series was designed to be self-contained, with no loose ends left dangling.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, O’Malley explained, “We loved what we did. We put everything we could into that first season. There are no ideas left on the floor, nothing left unsaid. It’s complete. While I’m never one to say ‘never,’ it would take a series of miracles for a second season to happen.”
Why No Scott Pilgrim Season 2?
The decision to leave Scott Pilgrim Takes Off as a standalone series was a creative choice, with O’Malley and Grabinski putting all their resources into crafting a perfect, self-contained experience. The idea of pushing for more episodes simply didn’t align with their vision for the show.
O’Malley added, “We were aware of the challenges of series cancellations. So, we made sure the story didn’t rely on the hope of more seasons. We put everything in this one.”
The Star-Studded Cast Returns
One of the most exciting features of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was the return of the original voice cast from the iconic live-action film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The anime brought back the talents of Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, Anna Kendrick, and Jason Schwartzman, much to the delight of fans who have long adored the 2010 film.
Is There Still Hope for Scott Pilgrim’s Future?
While the cancellation of Season 2 may be disappointing, O’Malley remains optimistic, noting that the show’s success and love from fans were deeply appreciated. However, he cautioned that it’s important to appreciate what the series accomplished in its first—and only—season.
“People are always frustrated when shows get canceled after one season, so we made sure to create a fully realized story arc for the anime. It’s self-contained, and we’re proud of it,” said O’Malley.
Fans can still enjoy the complete eight-episode season on Netflix, reliving the zany and heartfelt adventures of Scott Pilgrim and his friends in this anime adaptation.
What’s Next for Scott Pilgrim?
Although there won’t be a second season of the anime, Scott Pilgrim remains a beloved franchise with a strong fanbase. Whether or not the anime will inspire future projects, including more adaptations or spin-offs, remains to be seen.
For now, the Scott Pilgrim universe will live on in its first season, with fans continuing to celebrate the unique blend of comedy, action, and heart that made the series a cult hit.
