The 2024 Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) celebrated the best and most memorable moments in film, TV, and video game music. With a star-studded ceremony held at The Avalon in Hollywood on Wednesday night, Hans Zimmer and rising composer Emilia Pérez emerged as the night’s biggest winners, each securing three prestigious trophies. Other standout moments included The Wild Robot taking home two awards, further solidifying its impact in the animated film space.
Zimmer, a two-time Academy Award winner and 12-time nominee, claimed awards for his work across three projects. His recognition included Score – Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film for Dune: Part Two, Score – Documentary Series for Planet Earth III, and Song – TV Show/Limited Series for his collaboration on the song “Love Will Survive” from The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Meanwhile, Emilia Pérez received significant praise for its score, taking home the Score – Feature Film award for composers Clément Ducol and Camille. The film’s song, “El Mal”, performed by Zoe Saldaña, also earned the Song – Onscreen Performance (Film) category. The night also honored incredible songwriting, with Song – Feature Film going to Diane Warren’s “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight, which was performed by H.E.R. Other notable winners included Miley Cyrus, Lykke Li, and Andrew Wyatt for the song “Beautiful That Way” from The Last Showgirl, as well as Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Bernie Taupin, and Andrew Watt for “Never Too Late” from Elton John: Never Too Late.
Animated Film and Video Game Winners Shine
The Song – Animated Film category went to “Kiss the Sky” from The Wild Robot, with a songwriting team that included Maren Morris, Ali Tamposi, and Michael Pollack. The film’s composer, Kris Bowers, also took home the Score – Animated Film award, marking a significant win for the animated film’s creative team.
In the realm of video games, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora took the spotlight in the Song – Video Game (Console & PC) category with “The People’s Cry (Main Theme)” by Pinar Toprak and Paul Frommer. The Score – Video Game (Console & PC) category also saw success for Johan Söderqvist and Zio for their work on Delta Force.
TV and Film Awards: A Night of Strong Performances
The Song – TV Show/Limited Series award went to Hans Zimmer’s “Love Will Survive” from The Tattooist of Auschwitz, which featured the iconic voice of Barbra Streisand. Meanwhile, the Score – TV Show/Limited Series prize was awarded to Atticus Ross, Leopold Ross, and Nick Chuba for their work on Shōgun, which impressed with its emotional depth and thematic complexity.
In the Score – TV/Streamed Movie category, Kathryn Bostic earned recognition for her powerful score for The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat.

Other notable winners included Lainey Wilson, who earned the Music Video award for “Out of Oklahoma”, and Olivia Rodrigo, whose Guts World Tour took home the Live Concert for Visual Media honor. The Exhibitions, Theme Parks, Special Projects category also saw Braveship: The Live Symphonic Spectacular win, which featured a collaboration of over 200 contributors from more than 20 countries.
For short films, Spaceman won Score – Short Film (Live Action), while Daniel Rojas took home the Score – Short Film (Animated) award for Fly Hard. The Score – Short Film (Documentary) category saw Katya Richardson win for Motorcycle Mary.
The Soundtrack Album award went to Deadpool & Wolverine, produced by Hollywood Records, while the Music Supervision – TV Show/Limited Series went to Trygge Toven for his work on Fallout.
