Former Bachelor Matty Johnson shares daughters Marlie-Mae, two, and Lola, one, with fiancée Laura Byrne who he met on the show. And in a column for 9Honey Parenting on Friday, the 34-year-old revealed that he considers parenting to be the ‘hardest job in the world’.
Listing some of his ‘parenting fails’ including ‘caving in’ to ‘avoid a tantrum’, Matty admitted that raising is children is definitely not a walk in the park. ‘Becoming a dad knocked the ignorance right out of me I’ll be the first to say, being a parent is the hardest job in the world!’ he said.
Matty went on to reveal some of his parenting fails which include forgetting to bring key items to a park, cafe or friend’s house. ‘Nappies, dummies, snacks, baby wipes or spare clothes have all fallen victim to my forgetful brain that’s doing its best to perform under extreme fatigue,’ he said. Matty admitted that at times he chooses to ‘cave in’ when his daughters are wanting junk food and not the healthy meal he’s planned.
‘When your kids have turned into small screaming banshees because they’ve decided they don’t want the healthy delicious meal you slaved over for dinner, and instead want snacks, you know you should stand your ground,’ he said.‘But some days, to avoid the tantrum and the tears, you cave.’
He concluded his column by stressing the importance of realising you’re not perfect and that you’re doing the best you can. Matty and Laura fell in love on the 2017 season of The Bachelor. They got engaged while on holiday in Fiji in April 2018. Laura co-hosts the popular podcast Life Uncut for ARN, and Matty runs Sydney-based creative agency Pineapple Productions.
