Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel laureate and renowned social entrepreneur, was sworn in as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government on Thursday evening. The ceremony, held at the presidential palace in Dhaka, marked a significant political shift following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin officiated the swearing-in ceremony, which was attended by diplomats, civil society leaders, prominent business figures, and members of the former opposition. Notably absent were representatives from Sheikh Hasina’s party, highlighting the political realignment underway.

Yunus has assembled a diverse Cabinet of 16 members, predominantly drawn from civil society and student organizations. This selection underscores his commitment to involving grassroots voices in governance during this transitional period. The new interim government is expected to focus on stabilizing the country and addressing pressing issues while preparing for upcoming elections.

The formation of this Cabinet reflects a significant departure from previous administrations, aiming to infuse new perspectives into the country’s leadership and governance. With a notable absence of the former ruling party, the interim government under Yunus represents a fresh direction for Bangladesh’s political landscape.
