The Health Ministry said that New Zealand reported its first death that is linked to U.S. drugmaker Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine on Monday. The woman died out of a rare symptom – inflammation of her heart rate. Therefore the age of the women is not revealed out.
The country records delta variant just after the six months when the country got Covid-19 free where it followed a review by an independent panel that was monitoring the safety of the vaccines.
The first death case has come after the outbreak of the delta variant in the country which has been linked with the U.S. drugmaker Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.
The minister said that the vaccine monitoring panel attributed the death to myocarditis which is a rare but is a known side effect of the Pfizer vaccine. Myocarditis leads to the inflammation of the heart muscle that limits the organ’s ability to pump blood which can cause change in the rhythm of the heartbeat. Where Pfizer said that this is one of the rarest symptoms.
New Zealand’s new variant count is 562, leading to a nationwide lockdown to put a stop to the spread of the virus.
