Over the weekend, Eilish paused her show in Atlanta to assist an audience member in obtaining an inhaler, a gesture that Ye appeared to interpret as a dig at rapper Travis Scott.
Billie Eilish responded on Thursday to rapper Travis Scott’s recent statements that he would withdraw out of Coachella unless Eilish apologised.
Videos posted on social media over the weekend showed Eilish interrupting her Atlanta concert to assist a fan in need of an inhaler, a move that Ye, previously Kanye West, mistook for a dig at Scott.
“We’re taking care of our people, hold on,” Eilish stated in one recording. I wait for folks to say they’re fine before continuing.”
In none of the video clips, Eilish mentions Scott’s name, but Ye posted on Instagram on Thursday: “PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES TO TRAV AND THE FAMILIES OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE KILLED… NO ONE INTENDED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN… TRAV WILL ATTEND COACHELLA WITH ME, BUT I NEED BILLIE TO APOLOGIZE PRIOR TO MY PERFORMANCE.”
Eilish commented in the comments section: “Travis was never mentioned in any way. I was simply assisting a fan.”
Coachella 2022 will have Eilish and Ye as headliners, with the festival taking place over the weeks of April 15-17 and April 22-24.
Similar videos of artists like John Mayer, Adele, and Harry Styles pausing their concerts to check on the well-being of their fans have gone viral in the aftermath of the Astroworld tragedy — Travis Scott’s November 2021 festival in Houston, where ten people died, including a 9-year-old boy, due to a horrific crowd surge — have gone viral.
Eilish and Ye’s representatives did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
