The historic Koninghaven Bridge in the Netherlands will be demolished to give way to the world’s giant e-commerce company Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s superyacht. Located in the city of Rotterdam, this bridge was built in 1878. It was bombed and destroyed by the Nazis during the Second World War, after which it was rebuilt. However, the bridge will be demolished only temporarily.

Bezos’s 40 meter high yacht worth Rs 3 thousand 630 crore will not be able to cross the bridge. Because of this the center portion of the steel-girded bridge will be removed. The mayor of Rotterdam told – this is the only way to the sea and whatever cost it will cost to remove this bridge, Bezos will also pay for it. However, many people are also opposing the demolition of this bridge.

Bridge was part of the Second World War

Being a part of the Second World War, people have an emotional connection with it. The construction done on this bridge in 2017 had created a lot of anger among the people, when the municipal corporation had promised that it would not allow any damage to the bridge again.

According to Dutch media, the Municipal Corporation has said that the construction that will be done to give way to the boat will not only benefit financially but will also create new jobs. After the yacht passes, the bridge will be made back as before.
