During a rally in Georgia on September 24, former President Donald Trump humorously claimed that an immigration chart he cherishes has “saved his life” from multiple assassination attempts.
Trump enthusiastically remarked, “I have a chart that’s my all-time favorite! I love tha— is it around? … is it around?” He playfully wandered offstage as if searching for the chart, then returned to the podium, stating, “I sleep with that chart every night. I kiss it. I love it, because that chart saved my life.”
He referenced a July 13 incident in Pennsylvania, where a 20-year-old named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at him. Trump insisted that a quick glance at the chart diverted his attention just in time to prevent a potentially fatal outcome. “If I didn’t look to the right, I wouldn’t be here with you today, I guarantee you that,” he declared, adding that his sons, who are skilled shooters, believed he was lucky to escape.
The Secret Service swiftly neutralized Crooks during the attack.
Trump also recounted a second apparent assassination attempt on September 15 while he was golfing in West Palm Beach. He described how a keen-eyed Secret Service agent spotted a suspect lying in wait with an AK-47 rifle. “God was watching there too, because you needed somebody really sharp,” he said, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
“The would-be assassins only go after consequential presidents,” Trump continued, expressing confidence in his influence and the importance of his mission.
The second suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, was arrested the same day and faces charges for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and for having a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Trump concluded with optimism about his future endeavors, asserting that he and his team will achieve unprecedented things in the country.
