Elon Musk announced that SpaceX aims to launch five uncrewed Starship missions to Mars within the next two years, with the possibility of crewed missions following successful landings. However, Musk expressed worries that increased government bureaucracy under a Democratic administration, particularly under Vice President Kamala Harris, could hinder these ambitious plans.

In a recent social media post, Musk detailed, “If these uncrewed missions land safely, crewed missions could happen in four years. If we face challenges, we might have to delay by another two years.” He reiterated his commitment to establishing a human presence on Mars, despite past timeline adjustments.

The Starship program recently marked significant milestones, including a successful hypersonic return from space and a successful landing demonstration in the Indian Ocean. Musk believes that the Starship rocket is crucial for future missions to both the Moon and Mars.

One of Musk’s primary concerns revolves around the increasing red tape affecting major projects in the U.S. He highlighted the difficulties faced by large initiatives, citing California’s high-speed rail project as an example of bureaucratic inefficiency. Musk warned that “the bureaucracy currently choking America is guaranteed to grow under a Democratic administration,” which he fears could jeopardize the Mars program and humanity’s broader space ambitions.
