Trearddur Bay AFC has made significant waves in the transfer market ahead of the 2024-25 season, securing the signatures of seven new players, including a North Wales football legend and a prolific goal scorer.
Kaine Bentley returns to Lon Isallt at the age of twenty, having previously played a crucial role in Trearddur Bay’s title-winning campaign in 2022-23. Bentley’s reputation as a goal machine was further solidified last season at Gwalchmai, where he netted an impressive 40 goals, culminating in a memorable NWCFA Intermediate Cup final victory.
Joining him is Sion Edwards, a name synonymous with Welsh football greatness. Despite announcing his retirement last season after a distinguished career with Bangor City and Bangor 1876, Edwards has decided to grace Trearddur Bay with his experience and skill for the upcoming season. Edwards, known for his left-sided prowess and significant contributions to Bangor City’s successes in the Welsh Premier League and European competitions, brings a wealth of leadership and experience to the club.
The recruitment drive doesn’t stop there. Trearddur Bay has also welcomed Luke Smith, a versatile defender/midfielder who turned down offers from higher-tier clubs to join the ambitious project at Lon Isallt. Smith’s experience with clubs like Llandudno and Porthmadog adds depth and quality to the squad.
Kian Hughes, a product of the Connah’s Quay Nomads academy, and Harri Jones, a promising 17-year-old talent known for his strength and aerial ability, further strengthen Trearddur Bay’s roster with their youthful energy and potential.
Adding to the defensive solidity is Anthony Marshall, a former Welsh under-18 international with considerable experience in tier 2 football. Marshall’s leadership qualities and defensive prowess make him a pivotal addition to the squad.
In midfield, Sean McCaffery brings technical ability and a knack for scoring goals from midfield positions. Having worked with Trearddur Bay’s management coach Warren Gibbs at Conwy Borough, McCaffery’s familiarity with the coaching setup could prove crucial in integrating quickly into the team.
Alongside these signings, Trearddur Bay has bolstered its coaching staff with the addition of Martyn Jones, a seasoned manager and coaching chief with experience at clubs like Penmaenmawr Phoenix and Conwy Borough. Jones’s expertise will be instrumental in shaping the team’s tactical approach and player development strategies.
Managerial continuity is also assured with key players Morgan Rowlands, Casey Gregg, and Coby Doutch committing to stay with Trearddur Bay for the upcoming season. Additionally, the club celebrates the commitment of its Development Squad players, all of whom played crucial roles in recent cup successes.
Trearddur Bay AFC’s proactive approach in the transfer market and commitment to nurturing local talent alongside experienced campaigners sets the stage for an exciting season ahead in the Ardal North West league. With formidable competitors like Holyhead Hotspur and Llangefni Town in the mix, the club’s ambition to make a mark in Welsh football’s lower tiers is palpable.
As preparations intensify for the new season, all eyes will be on Lon Isallt, where fans eagerly anticipate seeing their new signings in action and witnessing the continued evolution of Trearddur Bay AFC under the guidance of their dedicated coaching staff.
