Draymond Green is taking part in virtual meetings with officials from the NBA, the players’ union and the Warriors as part of his journey back to the court. That is according to news ,who reports that Green is also having individual counseling sessions after he was handed an indefinite suspension from the NBA.
A few weeks earlier, he had put Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert in a headlock. Green has been ejected three times this season, with the NBA suspending him six times over the course of his career. Last year, the Warriors fined him after he punched then-teammate Jordan Poole. The meetings, which are held on Zoom, are reportedly designed to chart Green’s progress after he was embroiled in several violent episodes involving opponents and a former teammate.
It is said that among those involved in the discussions are Green’s agent, Rich Paul, Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr and team trainer Rick Celebrini. The four-time NBA champion was handed the suspension on December 13 after he hit Phoenix Suns’ Jusuf Nurkic in the face. Together with Green, the NBPA and the Warriors, the NBA came up with the indefinite ban. The power forward is in the first season of a four-year, $100million contract and he is losing more than $150,000 for every game he misses.
The league will reportedly have the final say on the 33-year-old’s return, with Green expeced to be back after 11 to 13 matches in exile. He is still allowed to practice with the Warriors but, according to news, the 33-year-old is not expected to regularly return to the team facility until the new year. Without him, Golden State has won five consecutive matches. The Warriors take on the Denver Nuggets on Christmas Day.
