Former North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson has revealed a very embarrassing injury he suffered during a game that resulted in him suffering an unwanted erection for two weeks.
He spilled the beans on the unfortunate preseason incident while appearing on Seven’s The Front Bar on Wednesday night. ‘I copped a heel in an area where it’s a bit uncomfy,’ Thompson explained, referring to an accidental hit he received from Dion Prestia.
Thompson, who had an outstanding 12-year career with the Roos, is remembered by many for playing through a game in 2019 after rupturing his testicle – but that wasn’t his strangest injury. ‘I played on in the game, nothing really happened. Rocking up at training the next day I had a bit of a problem downstairs. Blood-flow down there. ‘It wouldn’t go down.’
Thompson went on to explain that the bizarre injury became painful and didn’t correct itself for 14 days. ‘It got very sore. It [lasted] was about two weeks. ‘We had a preseason game at Etihad the next week – I wore two pairs of jocks,’ he admitted.
Co-host of the show Ryan Fitzgerald interjected to ask if a nerve in Thompson’s genitals had been affected. ‘Yeah, it bruised all there,’ confirmed Thomson. ‘It couldn’t go down.’ Fitzgerald then joked, ‘So, how do you actually do it, because Andy’s been paying a s***load for these pills.’
‘That was painful, ‘ he said. ‘It was like getting hit there normally, but it wouldn’t go away. ‘I have a new pain threshold after that. I had surgery and the stitches got infected, so that’s the new threshold.’ ‘One’s a little bit smaller,’ smiled Thomson.
Thompson then explained how painful it was to rupture his testicle when he was accidentally kicked by Allen Christensen while playing against Brisbane at the Gabba. The veteran Roo was taken straight from the airport to Epworth Hospital after the game to have a medical procedure to relieve the swelling.
