BOSTON — The atmosphere was electric at TD Garden as the Boston Celtics celebrated their recent championship victory with a stunning ring ceremony on Tuesday night. Teammates Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Al Horford gathered at mid-court, reflecting on their journeys and the history they’ve created together.

“I’ve been teammates with JB for seven years,” Tatum shared, reminiscing about their shared experiences since his rookie season. “The journey we’ve been on brought us to this point. It was cool to soak it in with those two guys and enjoy the moment.”

Brown echoed Tatum’s sentiment, feeling the weight of their accomplishments. “When we won, I was in shock, but today it settled in,” he said. “My name, alongside my teammates, is etched in Celtics history—one of the biggest franchises in sports.”

As they celebrated, the Celtics legends, including Bob Cousy, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett, looked on proudly at the league-record 18th championship banner, which was raised to the rafters. Tatum seized the moment, addressing the crowd, “To the best fans in the world, let’s do it again.”

A Dominant Season Opener

The night was not just about the ceremony; the Celtics also faced off against the New York Knicks, aiming to spoil Boston’s celebration. However, the Knicks had no answer for the Celtics’ dominance. Boston surged to a 20-point lead in the first quarter, tying an NBA record with 29 made three-pointers, ultimately securing a 132-109 victory.

The Celtics displayed beautiful basketball, becoming the fourth team in NBA history to achieve at least 30 assists, 20 made threes, and five or fewer turnovers in a single game, all while shooting an impressive 51/48/88 split.

In contrast, the Knicks struggled, with newcomers Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges combining for just 28 points, much of which came after the game was out of reach. Jalen Brunson noted the team’s performance, saying, “That’s the easy way out, but we still got our ass kicked.”

Bridges faced scrutiny for his shooting performance, missing his first five attempts before finding some rhythm. His teammate Josh Hart defended him, saying, “He puts the work in every day. He’s going to be good. The talk about his shot is just noise.”

Tatum’s Stellar Performance

The Celtics’ offensive strategy was clear: take advantage of the Knicks’ defense. Tatum thrived, making 14 of his 18 shots, including 8-of-11 from beyond the arc, for a total of 37 points. “The shot felt good,” Tatum said, crediting the team’s chemistry and preparation. “We played to our strengths and know what sets to run.”

Brown and Derrick White also contributed significantly, scoring 23 and 24 points, respectively. Al Horford, Jrue Holiday, and Sam Hauser added double-digit points, showcasing the Celtics’ depth and talent.

Hart recognized the Celtics’ exceptional shooting, admitting, “Give them credit—amazing energy on ring night. They shot the ball like we’ve only seen once before.”

The Road Ahead

While the Celtics celebrated their impressive start, doubts lingered about whether this level of performance could be maintained throughout the season. For now, the Celtics enjoyed the victory, relishing the feeling of being champions. “There’s something different about this team now that they have won,” Brown remarked. “We know who we are—champions.”

The presence of Celtics legends at the ceremony felt like a passing of the torch, inspiring the current roster. “This is what we set out to do,” Brown said. “My rookie year, I said I would go to war for this city, and it’s amazing to watch that banner get raised.”

As the new season begins, Tatum embraced the challenge ahead, unafraid to mention the word “repeat.” “I know we’re not supposed to talk about it, but the fans were just so excited,” he said with a grin. “I said, ‘F*** it, let’s do it again.’”

With their championship rings shining and a dominant performance on the court, the Boston Celtics are poised to make another run for the title. The journey has only just begun, but for Tatum, Brown, and Horford, the goal remains clear: repeat as champions.
