Excitement is building for the upcoming thriller “Cry Wolf” (Vargasommar), as Fifth Season and Swedish channel TV4 have just dropped the trailer, and it’s generating buzz! This gripping action drama features British musician-turned-actor Eliot Sumner alongside talented co-stars Eva Melander (Border) and Henrik Dorsin (Triangle of Sadness). Adapted from Hans Rosenfeldt’s debut novel, this series is set to premiere at the Stockholm Film Festival and on TV4 Play on December 25.

A Gripping Premise

Set in the remote Swedish town of Haparanda, “Cry Wolf” follows police investigator Hanna Wester, who makes a shocking discovery: human remains inside a dead wolf. As Hanna digs deeper, she uncovers a connection to a bloody drug deal across the Finnish border. Tension escalates in this quiet town when a professional killer arrives to retrieve three valuable bags, pushing the narrative into high-stakes territory.

Fifth Season’s president of TV distribution, Prentiss Fraser, describes the series as a refreshing take on the Nordic Noir genre, comparable to “Fargo.” With a mix of thrilling crime elements and dark humor, viewers can expect an engaging ride filled with unexpected twists. The script is crafted by Oskar Söderlund, known for his gripping storytelling in “Snabba Cash.”

Ambitious Vision for Nordic Noir

Josefine Tenglad, one of the creative minds behind Nordic Drama Queens, shared, “We aimed to renew Nordic Noir from the very start.” The series draws inspiration from iconic works like “Fargo” and “No Country for Old Men,” with a consistent directorial vision from Jesper Ganslandt throughout all six episodes.

“Cry Wolf” is a flagship project for Nordic Drama Queens, showcasing their successful partnership with Fifth Season, which has expedited the production process. “Their support allows us to take creative risks and get quicker greenlights,” noted producer Line Winther Skyum Funch.

A Bright Future Ahead

The collaboration between Nordic Drama Queens and Fifth Season is just getting started, with more projects on the horizon. Two additional series, “Blind Spot” and “The Scarab Flies at Dusk,” are in development, both based on celebrated literary works. “Blind Spot,” co-produced with Amazon MGM Studios, will premiere in 2025 and promises a modern twist on the classic whodunit genre.

As Nordic Drama Queens continues to expand its portfolio, the production team is excited about future opportunities. “We’re exploring major international projects, including films partly shot in English,” said Tenglad.

With “Cry Wolf” leading the way, Nordic Drama Queens are set to make a significant impact on the global stage of thriller series. Mark your calendars for this thrilling ride debuting this holiday season!
