In a revealing update as he promotes his new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, royal author Robert Jobson has shared poignant details about Prince William’s reaction to Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. The announcement, made by Middleton on March 22, came after her absence from royal duties following abdominal surgery in January 2024.

According to Jobson, Prince William was deeply shocked and emotionally affected upon learning about his wife’s illness. The author described the Prince’s immediate reaction, noting that he felt “a lump in [his] throat” and “an empty feeling in his stomach,” which Jobson attributed to the overwhelming nature of the news.

The emotional impact on William is compounded by the concurrent health struggles within the royal family. King Charles, William’s father, was diagnosed with cancer prior to Middleton’s announcement and has been undergoing outpatient treatment since February 2024. Jobson revealed that both King Charles and Middleton had urged William to remain strong and supportive during these challenging times.

Despite her illness, Middleton has made a few public appearances, including at the Trooping the Colour in June and Wimbledon in July. She has mentioned having “a few more months” of treatment ahead, but her exact return to royal duties remains uncertain. Her team is currently evaluating her post-treatment responsibilities.

Jobson described Middleton as remarkably composed throughout her treatment, focusing on living day by day and minimizing unnecessary stress or drama. As the royal family navigates these difficult times, Prince William, alongside Queen Camilla, has taken on a significant role within the monarchy, demonstrating resilience and support amid personal trials.
