Blue Fox Entertainment and Blue Fox Canada have officially snagged the North American digital and theatrical rights for the highly anticipated comedy “Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Story.”
This exciting spinoff from the beloved Canadian series “Trailer Park Boys” reunites fan-favorite characters, featuring Mike Smith as Bubbles, Robb Wells as Ricky, John Paul Tremblay as Julian, and Patrick Roach as Randy. With 16 seasons of hilarity available for streaming on Netflix, fans can look forward to even more antics as the film prepares for a nationwide theatrical release—exact dates are yet to be announced.
Joining the cast is the talented Billy Bob Thornton, known for his role in “Bad Santa,” along with special appearances from Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, “Sherlock” star Martin Freeman, and “The Umbrella Academy” actor Robert Sheehan.
Written by Mike Smith and directed by Charlie Lightening, who gained acclaim for “Liam Gallagher: As It Was,” this film is produced by a talented team including Smith, Wells, Tremblay, Lewin Webb, Jamie Brown, and Gary Howsam, under a Canada-U.K. co-production treaty.
The plot follows Bubbles and his band, The Shitrockers, as they embark on a European rock tour, aiming to open for Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters. But after a bumpy journey from Nova Scotia to Prague, they find themselves booted from the tour, forced to resort to busking to survive and make their way back home. Meanwhile, Ricky and Julian grapple with how to reclaim their dreams.
Not only is Smith the star of the film, but he also fronts the band Bubbles and the Shitrockers, who will be releasing a 14-track album on Spotify and Apple Music. Fans can also catch the band on tour across the U.S. and Europe, featuring performances alongside Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters.
The acquisition was negotiated by Ian Goggins, Dave Hudakoc, and Lisa Gutberlet for Blue Fox Entertainment, with Gary Howsam representing the filmmakers.
