Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams has responded to critics who accused her of delivering a scripted speech during her performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival, where she condemned former President Donald Trump. On September 22, Williams took to Instagram Stories to address a user who questioned her authenticity and suggested she might have been “paid or blackmailed” for her remarks.

In her response, Williams clarified that she had typed out her speech beforehand and a crew member held it near the camera to help her if she felt nervous. However, she emphasized that she didn’t need to look at the notes because she had prepared thoroughly. “Thanks so much for your concern and for spelling my name right, bye!” she added, reiterating that neither she nor her band received payment for their performance.

During her powerful address at the festival, Williams expressed strong sentiments about Trump’s agenda, stating, “Project 2025 is Donald Trump’s playbook for controlling and punishing women, poor people, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community.” She urged the audience to unite and “defeat the Trump agenda” by voting in the upcoming elections, questioning whether they wanted to live in a dictatorship.

In addition to her impactful speech, Williams also made a fashion statement, donning a vibrant blue ensemble complete with a matching headband, reminiscent of 70s style. The iHeartRadio Music Festival featured performances from a host of notable artists, including The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Gwen Stefani, Halsey, and Chris Martin from Coldplay.

Williams’ outspoken stance and spirited performance have resonated with fans, further solidifying her commitment to using her platform for social and political issues.
