Matthias Schoenaerts is reportedly in final negotiations to join the cast of DC Studios’ upcoming film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” He is set to portray the antagonist opposite Milly Alcock, known for her role in “House of the Dragon,” who will play the titular hero, Kara Zor-El.
While the specific character Schoenaerts will portray has not been confirmed, the comics feature a villain named Krem of the Yellow Hills, who comes into conflict with Supergirl after committing a grave crime against a young girl’s father.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, “Supergirl” is slated for theatrical release on June 26, 2026. Although plot details are still under wraps, James Gunn, co-chairman of DC Studios, has hinted that this version of Supergirl will be “much more hardcore” than previous iterations. He explained that the character’s backstory is starkly different from Superman’s, emphasizing her traumatic upbringing on a fragment of Krypton and the loss of her loved ones during her formative years.
The screenplay is penned by Ana Nogueira, based on the comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. “Supergirl” will be the second installment in Gunn and Peter Safran’s reimagined DC Universe, following the release of “Superman” in 2025, which stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Schoenaerts is recognized for his performances in notable projects such as “Rust and Bone,” “Red Sparrow,” and “The Old Guard,” and recently appeared in the HBO mini-series “The Regime” alongside Kate Winslet.
