AMC Networks has announced the cancellation of “Orphan Black: Echoes,” which aired its sole season starting in June and concluded with its finale on August 25. The series was available on AMC, BBC America, and the streaming service AMC+.
Starring Krysten Ritter, “Echoes” served as a follow-up to the acclaimed BBC America series “Orphan Black.” The cast also featured Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Avan Jogia, Rya Kihlstedt, and James Hiroyuki Liao.
The show follows a group of women intertwined in each other’s lives as they unravel the mysteries of their identities, exploring themes of love and betrayal. Ritter portrayed Lucy, a character with a complex origin story seeking her place in the world. Developed by Anna Fishko, the series saw contributions from original co-creator John Fawcett and executive producers from the franchise, including David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Nick Nantell, Katie O’Connell Marsh, and Kerry Appleyard.
Despite its connection to the beloved original series, “Echoes” did not achieve similar acclaim, earning a modest 60% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The original “Orphan Black,” which starred Tatiana Maslany, ran for five seasons and garnered Maslany an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.
