The War on Drugs has unveiled plans for their second live album, titled “Live Drugs Again,” slated for release on September 13 through Super High Quality Records.
This new live record follows their 2020 release, “Live Drugs,” and features a mix of tracks from their 2021 studio album, “I Don’t Live Here Anymore,” alongside popular songs from previous albums including 2017’s “A Deeper Understanding,” 2014’s “Lost in the Dream,” and 2011’s “Slave Ambient.”
Adam Granduciel, the band’s leader, commented, “‘Live Drugs Again’ captures the evolution of our music from the studio to stages around the world, highlighting our growth as a live band. This series preserves these versions and some of our favorite live moments.” Granduciel, who is known for composing much of the band’s music, emphasized the crucial role of the live band members in enhancing the songs’ live performances. “Part of ‘Live Drugs’ was about solidifying that period and what we had achieved as a live group,” he noted.
The album features the same lineup as the previous live recording: David Hartley (bass), Robbie Bennett (keys), Charlie Hall (drums), Jon Natchez (sax), and Anthony LaMarca (guitar), with the addition of Eliza Hardy Jones on keyboards and backing vocals. Granduciel expressed that “I Don’t Live Here Anymore” had a particular resonance in a live setting, noting that tracks like “Harmonia’s Dream,” “Old Skin,” “I Don’t Wanna Wait,” and the title track will be featured on the new album.
In addition to the album release, The War on Drugs will commence a co-headlining tour with The National on September 12, with support from Lucius.
