Seoul-based Finecut has officially boarded “Tristes Tropiques,” an upcoming action film by acclaimed Korean director Park Hoon-jung. This marks Park’s fourth collaboration with Finecut, following his previous successful projects “New World” (2013), “V.I.P” (2017), and “The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion” (2018).
“Tristes Tropiques” centers around a group of young assassins from the organization “Tristes Tropiques,” trained under the rule of a tyrannical figure known as “Master” in the tropical rainforest. As they navigate a landscape of betrayal and conflict, they are driven by a vow of bloody revenge.
Production for the film is slated to begin in Thailand this September, with an anticipated wrap by December. The film will feature a diverse, multi-national cast, enhancing its global appeal.
Park Hoon-jung, who began his career as a screenwriter with works like “The Unjust” (2010) and “I Saw The Devil” (2010), transitioned into directing with “The Showdown” in 2010. His notable directorial achievements include “New World” (2013), featuring Lee Jung-jae, and “Night in Paradise” (2021), which was showcased in the Venice Film Festival’s Out of Competition section.
“Tristes Tropiques” is produced by Park’s own production company, Gold Moon Film, in partnership with Mindmark, a content studio under the Shinsegae Group. Mindmark’s recent productions include “A Normal Family,” “Victory,” “Love Reset,” and “Honey Sweet.”
