Jenna Ortega has revealed she left Twitter after discovering explicit AI-generated images of herself as a teenager. In an interview with The New York Times, Ortega expressed her outrage and discomfort at encountering such disturbing content.
Ortega described her reaction, stating, “I hate AI. It can be used for incredible things, like detecting breast cancer early, but seeing edited explicit content of me as a child was horrifying. It’s corrupt and wrong.” She recounted receiving unsolicited explicit messages as young as 12 and feeling overwhelmed by the influx of disturbing content, which led to her decision to delete her Twitter account a few years ago.
Reflecting on her early career, Ortega acknowledged the impact of starting her acting journey at a young age, which exposed her to online harassment. Despite the challenges, she remains grateful for the experience and the knowledge it has given her. “I’ve learned so much about the industry and feel comfortable and excited going to work every day,” she said.
Ortega is currently promoting her role in Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which opens the Venice Film Festival before its theatrical release on September 6.
