Taylor Swift has shared her emotional response to the recent cancellation of three Vienna shows on her Eras Tour, revealing that the incident left her with a “new sense of fear” and “tremendous guilt.”

In an Instagram post on August 21, 2024, Swift reflected on the turmoil she felt following the cancellations, which were prompted by a thwarted terrorist attack. Swift’s heartfelt comments come as the European leg of her tour wrapped up at London’s Wembley Stadium. The cancellations in Vienna, originally scheduled to start on August 8, affected nearly 200,000 fans who had planned to attend.

“Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating,” Swift wrote. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows.” She expressed gratitude toward Austrian authorities for their swift action, which prevented a potential tragedy. Two men were arrested in connection with the plot, one of whom had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and targeted the Eras Tour as a potential attack site.

Swift’s post also highlighted the support she received from fans and the sense of unity that emerged in the wake of the cancellations. “I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together,” she said. She reassured her followers that her focus was on completing the tour safely, explaining that she chose to remain silent about the incident to avoid provoking potential threats.

“My priority was finishing our European tour safely,” Swift continued. “It is with great relief that I can say we did that. And then London felt like a beautiful dream sequence. The energy in that stadium was like the most giant bear hug from 92,000 people each night, and it brought me back to a place of carefree calm up there.”

In addition to addressing the Vienna cancellations, Swift expressed her gratitude to the surprise guests who joined her performances, including Ed Sheeran, Florence Welch, and Jack Antonoff. She also extended her thanks to her fans for their unwavering support throughout the tour.

“To the fans who have seen us this summer, you’ll always have the most sparkling place in my memories,” Swift wrote. “You were a dream to perform for, dance with, and share those magical moments with.”

The Eras Tour, which has been one of the most highly anticipated and talked-about events of the year, continues to draw acclaim for its spectacular performances and Swift’s dedication to her fans. As the tour moves forward, Swift’s commitment to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of her audience remains a top priority.
