Shawn Mendes is making a comeback with his new self-titled album, Shawn, scheduled for release on October 18. The announcement comes after a four-year hiatus since his last studio album, Wonder. Mendes shared the news through an Instagram post featuring a trailer for one of the album’s singles, Isn’t That Enough, alongside another upcoming track, Why Why Why, both of which will be released on August 8, his birthday.
In his Instagram post, Mendes reflected on his creative journey, revealing a period of identity crisis and panic that made songwriting challenging. He described how music, combined with support from loved ones, helped him rediscover his creative spark. “Music really can be medicine,” Mendes said, expressing gratitude to those who supported him throughout this process.
The singer-songwriter hopes that Shawn will resonate with listeners and offer a sense of warmth and connection. Mendes’s last studio album, Wonder, was released in December 2020 and followed by a world tour that was cut short due to his mental health struggles.
Since then, Mendes has been mostly out of the public eye, making occasional appearances and releasing singles like When You’re Gone (2022) and What the Hell Are We Dying For? (2023). He recently surprised fans by performing at concerts for Ed Sheeran, Noah Kahan, and Niall Horan. Mendes is also set to headline Rock in Rio on September 22 and Corona Capital in Mexico City on November 16.
Earlier this month, Mendes teased his new project with a studio video, marking his first album work in four years
