In a bid to enhance road safety and provide essential services to the community, Kuwait has issued a total of 2,160 new driving licenses to Bedouns (illegal residents) throughout the year 2023. This significant initiative, carried out in collaboration with the General Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior, marks a positive step towards inclusivity and legal compliance on the roads of Kuwait.
Abdullah Al-Farhan, the Director of the Information Department at the Central Agency for Resolving the Situations of Bedouns, revealed that during the period from January 1st to December 31st, 2023, a notable count of 26,437 driving licenses were renewed, indicating a proactive approach by authorities in addressing the needs of the community.
Among the various governorates, Al-Jahra emerged as the leader with the highest number of newly issued licenses, totaling 1,268. Following closely behind, the Capital Governorate secured 322 licenses, while Al-Farwaniyah and Al-Ahmadi obtained 283 and 207 licenses, respectively. Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Hawally followed suit with 50 and 30 licenses, respectively.
It is essential to note that individuals holding valid identification cards and reaching the age of 18 are eligible to obtain driving licenses, in accordance with Cabinet Resolution No. 409-2011. This resolution aims to provide various benefits and facilities to illegal residents, acknowledging their contributions to society and their rights to essential services.
Al-Farhan emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Interior in facilitating the issuance and renewal of private driving licenses for illegal residents.
