The nation welcomes its first giant panda cub at River Safari on 14 August, Saturday after the successful breeding in April of Jia Jia and Kai Kai where Kai Kai is 13 and Jia Jia is 12 and both of them arrived in Singapore in Sept 2012. Jia Jia and the cub are at the den for now where the cub weighs 200g, WRS announced in a press which was released on Sunday.
WRS stated 6that cub would be a joyful boost for the ongoing National Day. While Lee Hsien Loong, PM posted on social media, Facebook “we are delighted to have a birth.”
Therefore keepers deserve kudos for such a difficult and rare and the most accomplished task and preservation apart from many failures. Congratulations to the team at WRS, as well as for breeding many other endangered species in their care,” Mr. Lee added.
The ultrasound that was scanned in July showed a thickening of Jia Jia’s cervix and some fluid in her uterine horns said Dr. Cheng Wen-Haur, WRS’s deputy CEO and chief life sciences officer.
Also, he added” female giant pandas shows all the hormonal and behavioral signs of pregnancy when they were not expecting to.” Which led to the confirmation of the good news.
“The work will continue as now with the support, the first-time mother will raise her newborn cub.”
With the original agreement with China Wildlife Conservation Association, WRS committed to the conservation of endangered species that the cubs will be sent back to China when it will turn two years old.
