A Story of High-Stakes Suspense and Deception

What was supposed to be a routine journey soon becomes a battle for survival when Booth, who is also a hitman, is revealed to have been sent to eliminate the informant.
The plane’s passengers, trapped together in midair, must confront unexpected threats from both inside and outside the aircraft, ultimately forcing them to team up. As they try to survive, they realize that others are still trying to eliminate them, leading to a thrilling and dangerous fight for their lives.
Meet the Star-Studded Cast
- Mark Wahlberg as Daryl Booth: Known for his roles in The Departed and Ted, Wahlberg takes on the role of a hitman-turned-pilot in Flight Risk. His character is caught between duty, deception, and survival, adding layers of complexity to this intense thriller.
- Topher Grace as Winston: Grace, recognized for his roles in That ’70s Show and Spider-Man 3, plays Winston, the informant at the center of the story. He is pivotal to the plot as he struggles to stay alive, knowing that the consequences of his testimony are far-reaching.

Behind the Camera – Mel Gibson Takes the Director’s Chair
Flight Risk marks Mel Gibson’s return to directing after his 2016 hit Hacksaw Ridge, which garnered multiple Academy Award nominations. Known for his raw and powerful storytelling, Gibson brings a fresh intensity to Flight Risk. This film, set against the harsh backdrop of Alaska’s vast, unforgiving wilderness, offers a perfect setting for a high-octane thriller.
Gibson, also producing the film through his company Icon Productions alongside Bruce Davey, collaborates with Davis Entertainment and Hammerstone Studios to bring the script to life. The screenplay, written by Jared Rosenberg, was recognized as one of the best unproduced screenplays of 2020, earning a spot on the coveted “Black List” of top Hollywood scripts.
A Thrilling Journey Across Alaska
Filming for Flight Risk began in June 2023, primarily in Las Vegas, with additional shoots taking place in Mesquite, Nevada, and Alaska. These diverse locations set the stage for an action-packed adventure where survival is everything. Wahlberg, who plays the lead role of Daryl Booth, made sure to get into character by partially shaving his head each day to reflect the balding pilot look, rather than using a bald cap.
In an unusual move, the production team managed to continue filming during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike after receiving special approval. This determination to complete the project ensured that the suspenseful thriller would meet its new release date in 2025.
Release Date Change: Why Flight Risk Is Now Arriving in 2025
Initially slated for an October 18, 2024 release, Flight Risk has been rescheduled to January 24, 2025, in order to avoid direct competition with other high-profile films. The decision comes after Lionsgate evaluated the crowded release calendar in October and determined that a quieter release in January would provide a better opportunity for the film to shine.
This new release window places Flight Risk in direct competition with Disney-inspired indie horror comedy Screamboat and the thriller Inheritance starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rhys Ifans. With a January premiere, Flight Risk is expected to stand out as one of the first major thrillers of the year.
What to Expect from Flight Risk
Audiences can expect a fast-paced, heart-pounding ride as Flight Risk builds suspense with its high-altitude setting and high-stakes plot. The tense situation on board the plane creates a pressure cooker environment where the characters’ true motivations come to light. As the air marshal, pilot, and informant try to survive, secrets are revealed, and they must navigate their complex relationships to make it out alive.
Director Mel Gibson’s unique style, coupled with Wahlberg’s intense portrayal of a morally conflicted character, promises an unforgettable experience for thriller lovers. The film’s setting, combined with its powerful cast and high-stakes plot, ensures that Flight Risk will be one of the most anticipated films of 2025.
