Coldplay, the acclaimed band with a rich discography, has announced that they will retire after releasing their 12th studio album. Lead vocalist Chris Martin shared this news during a recent interview, emphasizing the importance of allowing each band member to pursue their own creative paths. The band has released nine albums to date, with their highly anticipated 10th album, titled Moon Music, set to drop on October 4, 2024.

In a conversation with Apple Music 1, Martin stated, “We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that’s real. Having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve.” He compared their journey to that of iconic artists, saying, “There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 ½ Beatles albums, there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes.”

During a chat with People magazine, Martin further explained, “To make an album great as a band, it’s such a lot of wrangling of people, and I want to give the others some of their life for themselves.” Despite their impending retirement from creating new albums, Martin assured fans that he and his bandmates—Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion—will continue collaborating on various projects.

Excitement is also building for Coldplay’s upcoming concerts in Mumbai, marking the band’s return to India after an eight-year hiatus. Scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at the DY Patil Sports Stadium, these performances are generating immense buzz. However, ticket sales were met with disappointment as they sold out within minutes, leading to reports of tickets appearing on the black market at inflated prices.

In light of these issues, BookMyShow’s CEO, Ashish Hemrajani, was summoned by Mumbai Police over allegations of a ticketing scam. Additionally, rumors have circulated on social media about potential cancellations of the Mumbai concerts, further adding to the frenzy surrounding the event.

As Coldplay prepares for this exciting chapter, fans are left to ponder the band’s legacy and future endeavors in the wake of their anticipated retirement.
