ABC announced on August 12 that Grant Ellis, known for his appearance on Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelorette, will be the lead for The Bachelor Season 29. Ellis, a 30-year-old day trader from Houston, will follow Joey Grazia Dei, who got engaged to Kelsey Anderson in the most recent season.
Grant Ellis is making history as the second Black Bachelor in the show’s history, following Matt James, who led the franchise in 2021. Ellis’s selection comes after his elimination, along with Spencer Conley and Sam McKinley, in the August 12 episode of The Bachelorette.
Before joining the reality TV scene, Ellis was a college basketball player, having competed for Iona University in New York and Albertus Magnus College in Connecticut. An injury ended his professional sports career, leading him to pursue a career in day trading. Known for his love of poetry, reading, and his favorite activities like bowling and karaoke, Ellis also shared personal stories about his father’s struggles with addiction during his time on The Bachelorette.
