SAINT-DENIS, France — Snoop Dogg added a unique flair to the Paris Olympics on Friday morning as he carried the Olympic torch in Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris, just before the opening ceremony. Known for his larger-than-life presence, the rapper and entertainment icon took on this prestigious role as one of the final torchbearers in a journey that began in Greece last April.
In a heartfelt interview earlier this week, Snoop Dogg expressed his deep appreciation for the opportunity to be part of such a historic event. “I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of something like this,” he said. “I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’ll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.”
The rapper’s involvement in the Olympic torch relay is not just a ceremonial gesture but also a strategic move by NBC, the U.S. broadcaster, to integrate pop culture into its Olympic coverage. Snoop Dogg, who is in Paris to help cover the Games, brings his unique blend of charisma and star power to the broadcast, aiming to boost viewer engagement and ratings.
In addition to his role as a torchbearer, Snoop Dogg will be contributing to NBC’s coverage with his signature style, providing a fresh perspective on the Games. His participation underscores the Olympics’ evolving approach to blending traditional sports coverage with elements of entertainment and pop culture.
As the Olympic flame makes its way through Paris, the inclusion of such high-profile figures in the torch relay reflects the Games’ ongoing effort to resonate with a global audience. Snoop Dogg’s presence not only adds a touch of star power but also symbolizes the cultural and international significance of this year’s Olympic Games.
With the opening ceremony approaching, the excitement surrounding the Paris Olympics is palpable, and Snoop Dogg’s role highlights the unique intersections of sports, culture, and media in this grand global event.
