Jessica Alba’s latest film venture, “Trigger Warning,” has landed on Netflix to a barrage of scathing reviews from critics, particularly on Rotten Tomatoes.
Released on the streaming platform Friday, “Trigger Warning” stars Alba as Parker, a U.S. Special Forces commando who returns home abruptly after her father is murdered. Taking over her family’s bar, Parker confronts her past, encountering her ex-boyfriend, now a sheriff, and his brother, amidst a backdrop of political intrigue involving a powerful senator’s family and a menacing gang presence.
However, the film has struggled to impress critics, earning a dismal 26% “rotten” rating based on 19 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Audience reception has been even harsher, with an audience score of 16% based on over 50 user ratings.

Among the critiques, David Ehrlich from IndieWire draws parallels with Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo series, noting Alba’s portrayal lacks engagement: “Seemingly bored out of her mind in every scene where she isn’t slitting a bad guy’s throat, the likable Dark Angel actress—a capable action star who’s never lacked charisma in the past—appears to have confused Rambo-like stoicism with complete dissociation.”
Robbie Collin of the Telegraph derides the film for failing to live up to its title, likening it to a bland offering: “Despite its title, Trigger Warning is about as inflammatory as a ham and cheese sandwich. There are installments of the Minions franchise more liable to épater the bourgeoisie than this thinly spread thriller.”
On a somewhat more positive note, Dennis Harvey of Variety provides a “fresh” rating, acknowledging the film’s slick presentation but critiquing its plot devices and lack of suspenseful direction: “Director Mouly Surya doesn’t exhibit any great flair for building suspense or staging violent set-pieces.”
