Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley has confirmed her character Mandy Dingle’s return to the soap after she took a break from the show due to a heartbreaking personal loss. Lisa, 45, took some time away from filming after being left devastated over the death of her beloved grandmother, while the star also didn’t attend the British Soap Awards earlier this month.
But taking to Instagram this week, Lisa gave fans an update of her character’s return and teased the date they can expect to see the barmaid back on screens. Uploading a smiley selfie on Wednesday, Lisa revealed that she had returned to the Leeds set to film new scenes and was also embarking on a new project.
She wrote: ‘Just finished filming a lovely day in studio at @emmerdale, now on my way in the car down south to film something else for the day… should be a REALLY good giggle, I’m looking forward for it.’
When one fan then asked when fans can expect to see Mandy back in Emmerdale, Lisa confirmed: ‘Middle of July’. Fans were quick to share their delight at the news, with one writing: ‘Can’t wait to see Mandy back in Emmerdale.’
With another sharing: ‘Miss you in emmerdale it’s not the same x.’ Lisa opened up about her devastating loss in a moving Instagram post earlier this year.She penned: ‘Today, we know, will be the toughest day, we lean on each other, you are now at peace, yet we are all craving your energy around the house.
‘God has gained another Angel. May you light up heaven with your warmth and your infectious smile. I will be trying to be strong for the both of us.’ Earlier this year, Lisa opened up about her grief for another relative, as she revealed she has halted all wedding plans as the day ‘would no longer be special’ after her mothers death in 2012.
The soap star has been with her partner Al for seven years, with the couple getting engaged in 2018. But speaking of a potential wedding back in February, Lisa said: ‘There would be an empty seat and I wonder how I would cope.’

Lisa’s beloved mother Cath died from cancer in her arms at the age of 57. The TV star said she cant bear to set a date because she feels like the day would be ‘painful’.
However she isn’t in any rush to marry her fiancé as she revealed their ‘lives are great as they are.’ She told The Mirror: ‘I already call him my husband and he calls me his wife. We just haven’t gone down the aisle and got the ring and the paperwork.’ The star revealed whenever they do decide to get married it wont be a big day and it will only include close family.
