Elon Musk has made headlines by donating a staggering $75 million to the America PAC, a political action committee aimed at supporting Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. This significant contribution places Musk among the top Republican donors.
Big Bucks in a Short Time
Between July and September this year, Musk was the only donor to the America PAC, as revealed by recent federal filings. Other notable past donors include Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir Technologies, and the Winklevoss twins. Despite its strong financial backing, America PAC has faced hurdles in getting fully operational, leading to the dismissal of several vendors and a pause in advertising. Musk acknowledged these challenges on social media, stating, “Sorry, so many dumb things happening. Working on fixing.”
The PAC is primarily focused on get-out-the-vote efforts in crucial swing states.
Musk’s Support for Trump
Musk publicly endorsed Trump for the 2024 election following a tragic shooting incident at a Trump rally, which left one person dead and the former president injured. Since then, Musk has actively participated in Trump rallies and has been vocal in his support on social media platforms, even sharing some controversial posts about Kamala Harris.
As of now, America PAC has spent over $100 million supporting Trump, although it has not yet invested in traditional television ads. Instead, the PAC is concentrating on canvassing, digital advertising, and direct mail campaigns. It has also supported various Republican candidates for the House and Senate.
