On Wednesday evening, the “Reds” defeated Leeds United 6-0 (3-0) in their matchday 19 catch-up game, closing the deficit on the Cityzens to three points – with a higher goal difference (+50). Both top teams meet in a direct duel at the start of April. Liverpool was eleven points behind Man City at the start of the year.
Liverpool took an early lead thanks to a converted hand penalty by star scorer Mohamed Salah (15th minute). Former Bundesliga player Joel Matip improved (30th) before Salah (35th) scored again, this time from a penalty. Sadio Mané (80’/90′) and Virgil van Dijk (90’+3′) scored the last goal in Liverpool’s sixth league win in a row in the second half.
Tottenham Hotspur missed another critical victory in the race for European Cup berths four days after a last-minute win at Manchester City (3-2). Spurs were defeated 0-1 (0-0) by relegation challenger FC Burnley and are three points behind fifth-placed West Ham United with two games remaining.
