The annual Light Festival is being organized these days in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Light Festival, which began on Wednesday, will continue till 6 pm on February 20. The theme of this year’s 11th Light Festival is ‘Lightning the future’. In this the development journey of Sharjah is being presented to the world.
The Light Festival began with the Lightning of the University City Hall. City Hall was chosen keeping in mind Sharjah’s commitment to education and architecture. Several competitions are also organized during the festival. These also include the category of Best Photo and Script.
Lighting is being done on 10 major sites of Sharjah such as Al Majaz Water Front, Al Noor Mosque, Al Rafisha Dam and Sharjah Mosque. Along with this, food stalls have also been started for the tourists visiting Sharjah this year. The festival was closed for the last two years due to Corona.
Its achievements in various fields including education, art, astronomy, architecture and environment were highlighted during the show. Speaking at the event, Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, President of SCTDA, said that the festival is one of the hallmarks of the success and originality of our emirate’s tourism sector.
Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, said that we are extremely proud of the achievements the tourism sector is making every year.
Stories from the traditional Islamic heritage of the Emirate were also showcased through a light show. The event also saw the return of the Food Truck Zone, which has over 30 participants this year.
